For New Year's 2000, they were spending a week in Denmark followed by a week in Italy visiting friends made through rowing.
While in Venice, Dave kept talking about how he "always wanted to ride in a gondola since I was a kid". While in the
gondola, they kissed under the "Ponte de Sospiri" ("Bridge of Sighs") which according to local tradition/legend ensures that
their love will last forever. While still in the gondola, in front of the home of Casanova, Dave said to Jeanne "I want to
Marry you..." and handed her a ring.
